Akademischer Orchesterverein in Wien

The Akademischer Orchesterverein is a non-profit high-standard amateur orchestra established since more than 100 years and based in Vienna, Austria, whose members are successful in their professional life and enjoy playing music. Under the guidance of our professional Music Director and conductor, Christian Birnbaum, the orchestra is one of the leading amateur orchestras in Austria. It boasts over 80 players tackling major works of the 19th and 20th Centuries, although works from outside this period are also performed.

The orchestra rehearses 1-2 times a week and gives at least five concerts every year. The major event every year is our concert in the main concert hall of the Viennese Musikverein.

The orchestra always welcomes enquiries from new musicians of a suitable standard (especially string players). If you are interested in joining the orchestra contact us and see if you enjoy playing with us.
